Dale Earnhardt

Arguably the most popular racer in history, Dale Earnhardt was an aggressive driver with a casual southern drawl. The Kannapolis, N.C., native won seven NASCAR Cup Series championships, but unfortunately is remembered as much for his death as his life.

He was killed during a last-lap crash in the 2001 Daytona 500, leaving NASCAR without its biggest star.
