MORRIS, Ill. — D.J. Weltmeyer inherited the late model victory Friday night at Grundy County Speedway after apparent winner Eddie Hoffman was disqualified. In post-race inspection, Hoffman was found to have too much camber in the rear differential.
The 28-year-old Weltmeyer finished ahead of the evening’s fast timer Anthony Danta. Scoring showed Mike Dimand, Kevin Murphy, Clay Curts and Dennis Lyp rounding out the top finishers. Weltmeyer is a third-generation racer and his father Dave, who is the crew chief on his son’s car, was a Chicago area stock car front runner and champion for many years.
Another first-time winner this season, David Einhaus captured the 25-lap Mid-American sportsman main event. Einhaus took the checkered flag in front of points leader Blake Brown, John McMahon, fast qualifier Marqus Hoover and former division champion Matt Clemens.
Points leader Scott Gardner won the 25-lap street stock headliner. Winning for the third time this year, Gardner bested Randy Weese and his son, Scotty Gardner. Sal Lozano and Darrel Gay rounded out the top five.
Kyle Brick was the winner of the special 25-lap feature race for Pure Stocks (four-cylinder) competitors. Zach Legner and Cameron Preisler chased Brick to the finish line. Landon Hocking won the 15-lap Super Cup feature.
