Weber Is Grundy Late Model Star

MORRIS, Ill. — In a battle for this year’s track championship, Jim Weber made off with top honors in the 30-lap late model stock car feature race at the Grundy County Speedway Friday night.

Moving into the lead on lap three, Weber, from Homer Glen, Ill., drove his Tricor Commercial Carpentry/Senneker Performance-sponsored Chevrolet No. 3 to his second feature win of the season at the third-mile paved raceway.  Starting the evening second in the points behind leader and seven-time late model titlist Eddie Hoffman, Weber held a 0.847-second advantage over fastest qualifier Scott Tomasik at starter Greg Kuntz’s checkered flag.

Hoffman, early race leader Scott Koerner, James Lynch and Clay Curts rounded out the top six in the feature field.

Grabbing his third feature win of the year, Matt Clemens captured the 25-lap sportsman division headliner.  Clemens, a former two-time Grundy champ, defeated current points leader Kenny Benson with Kevin Murphy, Marqus Hoover and fast timer Jeremiah Senko making up the rest of the top-five finishers.

Last year’s division titlist Scotty Gardner was the winner of the 25-lap street stock main event. Picking up his third win of the year, Gardner bested points leader Matt Chester, who was chased by fastest qualifier Cameron Priesler, Alex Gay and Christy Penrod at the end.

The four-cylinder pure stock class saw Kristi Odom win her first feature race of the season, scoring the 20-lap victory over Zach Chanda and points leader Danielle Dobczyk.  Winning for the second time in 2023, Landon Hocking claimed top honors in the 20-lap main event for Super Cup Series competitors, battling points leader Adam Senerchia and JoJo Fadke to the checkered flag.
