Track Of The Day: Limaland Motorsports Park

With the racing world paused amid the COVID-19 outbreak, SPEED SPORT is highlighting race tracks around the United States. This is part of that ongoing series.

Track of the Day: Limaland Motorsports Park
Address: 1500 Dutch Hollow Road, Lima, OH 45807
Website: www.limaland.com

History: Limaland Motorsports Park has been a part of the community in Lima, Ohio, since it opened in 1935 as a horse racing track called Allentown Speedway.

In more than 80 years of racing, the track has changed hands a number of times. Earl Baltes, the legendary promoter of Ohio’s Eldora Speedway, even owned the quarter-mile dirt oval for a period of time.

In 1998, things changed at Limaland Motorsports Park when the University of Northwestern Ohio acquired the track in order to enhance the university’s high-performance automotive program.

Since then the track has seen a number of improvements and continues to operate as weekly race track in the summer as well as a place for students of the university to hone their craft prior to earning degrees.

The track plays host to a pair of weekly racing divisions — the Northwest Physical Therapy UMP Modifieds and Bud Thunderstocks. Todd Sherman (UMP Modifieds) and Tony Anderson (Thunderstocks) are the reigning track champions in their respective divisions.

The track also plays host to numerous touring divisions, including the K&L Ready Mix NRA Sprint Invaders, the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series and the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions.
