MORRIS, Ill. — Coming home the winner in three out of four starts this season, Paul Shafer Jr. was again the winner of the 30-lap late model stock car feature race at the Grundy County Speedway Friday night.
The second-generation, Portage, Ind., racer wheeled his Paul’s Auto Yard-sponsored Chevrolet No. 7 to the win. Shafer, the night’s fastest qualifier, finished ahead of Larry Schuler with a 0.517-second margin at the checkered flag. Eddie Hoffman, Stan Zolodz IV, last week’s feature winner Ricky Baker and Stevie Campbell rounded out the top six.
For the second time this year, Tristan Batson of Lockport, Ill., won the 25-lap Mid American sportsman main event. Batson bested Blake Brown, Kenny Benson, Aaron Shelton and Marqus Hoover.
Starting to look pretty unbeatable, Randy Weese was the winner of the street stock feature race with the Morris, Ill., driver winning the special 40-lap race at the third-of-a-mile paved oval. Scott Gardner, Bill Serviss, Salvador Lozano and Chad Bayuk chased Weese, now with four feature wins in a row, to the finish line.
Cameron Priesler was a first-time winner in the four-cylinder division, taking the evening’s 20-lap headliner over Kyle Brick and Jeremiah Senko.
Another first-time winner was young Jacob Senerchia. Senerchia, son of multi-time Grundy champion John Senerchia, captured the 20-lap Super Cup Series feature.
