11 Races Lined Up For Georgetown Speedway

GEORGETOWN, Del. – The BD Motorsports Media team has set an 11-race schedule for the upcoming season at the Georgetown Speedway.

The schedule is highlighted by three separate appearances from the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series fueled by Sunoco and the inaugural Gary Simpson Memorial 12K for the 12K race.

Two practices precede the racing season Saturday, March 5 and Thursday, March 10, the latter serving as the Opening Night to the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial weekend.

The Melvin L. Joseph Memorial serves as the season opener with the Short Track Super Series and its Elite program on March 10-12.

The weekend of racing will conclude with a 49-lap, $25,000-to-win feature in round two of the STSS Halmar International Elite Series. The $25,000 payday serves as the largest winner’s share for a dirt-track race in Delaware history.

The STSS returns Tuesday, Aug. 30 as Melon 1 presents Blast at the Beach, the popular summer classic at the Sussex County half-mile. The Modifieds will race for 35 laps and a $6,000 payday.

The final STSS stop rounds out the season Oct. 28-29 with Mid-Atlantic Championship weekend. The season concludes as the modifieds go for 40 laps and the potential of $7,000-to-win.

The STSS Crate 602 Sportsman join all three STSS programs at Georgetown Speedway again next year.

New on the schedule is the Gary Simpson Memorial ‘12K for the 12K’ race, which honors the late Delaware racing car owner Gary Simpson.

The July 22 race will see the modifieds race for 32 laps and $12,000-to-win, the second highest-paying race of the season at Georgetown next year.

The Simpson Memorial will also host the crate 602 sportsman going 22 laps for $1,212-to-win. The Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Little Lincolns, Delaware Super Trucks and Delmarva Chargers all join the night of racing as well.

Familiar favorites continue, as the Mark “Coot” Williams Memorial takes place for the super late models alongside the Battle of the Bay for the RUSH Late Model Series on April 14.

May 13 provides another running of the Deron Rust Memorial, as the modifieds go for 33 laps and $3,960 to win.

Sprint cars visit Georgetown on three separate occasions next year, with three separate series taking center stage.

The Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series join the modifieds and RUSH Late Models for the June 3 program. It’ll be the series lone appearance of the season.

Sprint cars then visit Georgetown twice in September. First, on Sept. 9, the United Racing Club 360 sprint cars join the modifieds and RUSH Late Models.

Three weeks later, on Sept. 30, the non-winged warriors of the USAC East Coast Sprint Cars co-headline the event with the modifieds and crate 602 sportsman.
