MORRIS, Ill. — Seven-time late model track champion Eddie Hoffman of Wheaton, Ill., posted his 151st career feature win at the Grundy County Speedway Friday night.
Claiming his first win of the new season, the second-generation racer, whose dad, Ed, was a major force in Chicago area racing in the 1970s-80s, drove his Feece Oil Co.-sponsored Chevrolet No. 8 to the win at the third-mile paved fairgrounds oval.
Taking the lead from Jim Weber with 10 laps to go, Hoffman raced to the checkered flag in the 30-lap headliner with a 0.310-second victory over last year’s track champion and the evening’s fast qualifier D.J. Weltmeyer. Keith Tolf, Weber, Tony Brutti and Scott Koerner rounded out the top six in the nine-car field.Â
Kenny Benson was the winner of the 25-lap sportsman feature race, winning for the first time this year ahead of former division champions, Matt Clemens and Kevin Murphy. Last year’s street stock titlist Scotty Gardner won the 25-lap street stock chase defeating last week’s feature winner Matt Chester and Randy Weese.
Zach Legner defeated his brother, Gavin, in the 20-lap four-cylinder contest. Danielle Dobczyk chased the Legner brothers to the finish line.
Defending Super Cup champion Jacob Senerchia claimed top honors in the division feature race, besting Landon Hocking and Carter Appleton.
