Paul Tracy Not Returning To SRX This Season

Paul Tracy will not be returning to the Superstar Racing Experience this season, SRX CEO Don Hawk confirmed during a media call on Wednesday afternoon.

Tracy, who has competed full time with the all-star series since its inaugural season in 2021, was suspended after last week’s event at Pulaski County (Va.) Motorsports Park.

While battling with reigning Indianapolis 500 winner Josef Newgarden on lap 90, Tracy shoved the driver of the No. 2 into the outside wall exiting turn four, causing a multi-car accident on the frontstretch.

When asked what a timetable for Tracy’s return would be, Hawk put it simple.

“It won’t be this year,” Hawk told SPEED SPORT.

Despite the difficult decision to keep the 2003 CART champion out of the No. 3 car, Hawk said there isn’t any bad blood between series officials and Tracy.

“Him and I’ve talked, we’ve texted we’ve gone back and forth. There are no feuds, there is no war,” Hawk said. “But, there’s just a decision that’s been made. And we have to just move on from that.”

Johnny Benson Jr. will climb aboard Tracy’s No. 3 at Berlin (Mich.) Raceway on Thursday night. Hawk noted he’s still in the process of filling Tracy’s seat for the final two events.

“Later today I’ll be making some decisions as it relates to who gets in that race car for Eldora, and who gets in there for Lucas Oil Speedway,” Hawk said. “But Paul will not be returning the balance of the year.”
