Kingshott Extends Points Lead With Perth Triumph

Dayne Kingshott, rocking the Krikke Motorsport retro livery, strengthened his lead in the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series championship after winning the 30-lap feature race at Western Australia’s Perth Motorplex on Saturday night.

In a shortened format for round 14 of the 18-round series, Kingshott claimed his sixth sprint car feature race ahead of a hard-finishing Callum Wiliamson and Brad Maiolo.

“Absolutely cool,” was how Kingshott described the win on the podium after starting third.

“If you can drive by the 3 (Williamson) here in a feature race, you know you have something right.”

He described the car as a “rocket ship” and said while it was a wild ride through lapped traffic, he was pretty happy to get the job done.

Kingshott’s main rival for the series championship, defending series champion James Inglis, was a non-finisher after crashing out following contact with Aaron Chircop near the end of the race.

Kingshott said their goal at the start of the season was to win the championship and the best way to do that is by winning races.

Williamson said he was happy with second place and while he pushed hard late, he made too many mistakes to reduce the gap.

Maiolo said he was happy to salvage a podium result after a couple of moments in the race, with the result consolidating his third overall in the championship points.

As It Happened

A series of events were triggered when the caution light came on after only a few laps when Trent Pigdon spun.

Jaydee Dack, who started seventh, headed to the work area with seatbelt issues and Kaiden Manders, who was contesting the Australian Speedcar Championship 40-lap feature race straight after the sprint car feature, opted to pull to the infield and prepare for that event.

Milling again started strong and with five laps down, Kingshott got the job done under Williamson for second – at about the same time as Dack headed infield.

Kingshott put a slide job on Milling with nine laps down and from there he was never challenged.

Williamson got under Milling with 11 laps completed and soon afterwards, Kris Coyle, who started sixth, ran around the outside of Milling to take third.

Two laps later Coyle went under Williamson for second in lapped traffic, but Williamson fought back to consolidate the position.

Maiolo, who started eighth, and earlier in the race tagged the fence just before the Pigdon spin, moved to fourth with 13 laps remaining, before then switching spots with Milling for third.

With a couple of laps remaining Williamson worked hard to close the gap on Kingshott, but fell short.

Milling held on for fourth, while Coyle crossed the line in fifth.

Jason Kendrick, who started 16th, moved up 10 spots to claim sixth and be the latest Kincrome Hard Charger award winner.

Round 15 of the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series will be held at the Perth Motorplex on March 16.
