Chappell Ends Three-Year Drought With OCRS

CANEY, Kan. — Racing in Kansas seems to produce positive results for three-time AmeriFlex Hose & Accessories OCRS Sprint Car champion Zach Chappell.

Saturday, Chappell ended a three-year drought winning his 13th career OCRS main event at Caney Valley Speedway. His last victory came on June 13, 2020 at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas. Chappell went on to win his third AmeriFlex / OCRS championship that season.

Starting third in the 20-car field Saturday, Chappell was in the lead before the end of the first lap and never looked back in the 30-lapper.

Alex Sewell, who started outside front row, fell to third in the early laps then regained the runner-up position on lap 6. Sewell tried to run down Chappell and closed to within 0.469 seconds on lap 28. However Chappell maintained his lead winning by 0.867 seconds over Sewell. Pole sitter Alex DeCamp finished third after being passed by Sewell for the second place spot. Sean McClelland climbed from 10th to finish fourth and Rees Moran held on to fifth.
