Power Rankings: Denny Hamlin Emerges

It’s time for a new edition of SPEED SPORT Power Rankings. Who will be on top this week?

1. Erica Enders

Six-time NHRA Pro Stock champion Erica Enders raced into the final round at In-N-Out Burger Dragstrip in Pomona, Calif., but the final was postponed until this coming weekend’s event at Firebird Motorsports Park. Enders previously won the Gatornationals and the PRO Superstar Shootout this season.

2. Denny Hamlin

Denny Hamlin won Sunday’s Easter Sunday night NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond (Va.) Raceway. It was his second triumph of the season and moved him to third in the standings.

3. Ricky Thornton Jr.

Ricky Thornton Jr. claimed $20,000 for winning the Nippy 50 at Iowa’s Maquoketa Speedway. It was his sixth dirt late model triumph of the campaign.

4. Alex Palou

Reigning NTT IndyCar Series champion Alex Palou turned in a dominant performance to win the $1 Million Challenge at The Thermal Club, earning the $500,000 top prize for his Chip Ganassi Racing team.

5. Jett Lawrence

With five Monster Energy Supercross triumphs this season, Jett Lawrence leads the standings with by eight points with five races remaining.

6. Josef Newgarden

Having won the Rolex 24 At Daytona in January, Josef Newgarden turned in a dominant performance to win the NTT IndyCar Series opener at St. Petersburg, Fla.

7. Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen won the first two Formula 1 races of the season but dropped out of Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix. Still, the Red Bull driver leads the standings after three races.

8. Bobby Pierce

Dirt late model racer Bobby Pierce earned his eighth victory of the season Friday night at Iowa’s Maquoketa Speedway.

9. Matt Sheppard

Matt Sheppard earned $50,000 for winning the Speed Showcase, which was sanctioned by the Short Track Super Series, at Pennsylvania’s Port Royal Speedway. It was his fourth STSS triumph of the season and his sixth victory of the year.

10. Kyle Larson

Kyle Larson finished fifth in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond (Va.) Raceway. Larson has a Cup Series and Xfinity Series victory this season, ranks second in Cup Series points and owns a High Limit sprint car triumph.
