SMITH: Getting Back On Track

KNOXVILLE, Iowa — After a long Iowa winter, it’s time to get back on the track!

This year I plan to run my 250cc Outlaw Kart in a full schedule at English Creek Speedway here in Knoxville, Iowa. We will also hit some races at Thunder Hill Speedway in Menomoine, Wis.

Over the winter, my dad and I put together a different kart, sent the engine to Adam’s Performance to get ready and I worked on expanding our supporters.

I’d like to welcome new sponsors — Van Meter Inc., MPI – Max Papis Innovations, Bell Helmets and Walker Performance Filtration.

We had practice on April 19 at English Creek Speedway. With only racing one class this year, I will be able to focus better on a single driving style. Before I go out to practice, I get buckled in my kart and run the lines I want to practice in my head, so it’ll come more naturally when I’m on the track.

I wanted to work on the slider, crossover, high and low line. The track was a little drier than normal, which also helped with throttle control, so I didn’t spin out.

I’ll upload race videos throughout the year on my YouTube channel and social media … just search for McKenzie Smith Racing.

With the design help of MyRacePass, my 2019 shirt designs are ready to go. They can be found under the “Merch” tab on McKenzieSmithRacing.com. With MyRacePass, you can pick your shirt style and color, and have them shipped to your front door.

Thank you to my returning partners for their continued support — Sky Zone Des Moines, MyRacePass, Gregg Young Chevrolet Norwalk, EBU, Ellis Greenhouse, Adam’s Performance, Jocko’s Sprint Part, Central Iowa Insurance Services, Hog Wash, Midwest Balloon Services, Sign Creations, SPEED SPORT, Compass Racing Development and my grandparents.

Editor’s note: Smith took to the track for her first feature event of the season at English Creek Speedway, qualifying second, placing second in her heat race and finishing third in the feature.
