Tyler Ankrum Tops Truck Series Practice At Atlanta

Tyler Ankrum posted the fastest lap in Saturday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series practice session at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Ga.

The Hattori Racing Enterprises driver posted a speed of 181.61 mph around the newly reconfigured track.

The session, scheduled for 40 minutes but only lasting 25, saw quite a bit of pack racing, the intended result of the renovation project of the 1.5-mile track.

The top five was completed by Matt DiBenedetto (181.29 mph), Derek Kraus (181.18 mph), Jack Wood (180.05) and Hailie Deegan (180.00).

“That’s probably one of the wildest practice sessions I’ve ever been part of,” Hailie Deegan told Fox Sports 1.

The only significant incident in the session was a spin by Austin Wayne Self in Turn 4 about 25 minutes into it. Extended cleanup of fluid put down on the track meant the session didn’t resume.

The Truck Series race is scheduled for 2:48 p.m. ET on FS1. Chandler Smith starts from the pole.
