Smith Secures Xfinity Series Pole In Las Vegas

Kaulig Racing’s Chandler Smith secured pole position for Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

He turned a 29.489-second lap at 183.119 mph in his No. 16 Chevrolet during Friday night’s qualifying session at the 1.5-mile oval. JR Motorsports driver Justin Allgaier will start outside the front row after turning a fast lap of 29.544 seconds.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s Cole Custer drove his No. 00 Ford to a third-place finish, while Brett Moffitt qualified fourth in the No. 25 AM Racing entry.

JR Motorsports’ Josh Berry ended the session in fifth.

Berry is also scheduled to fill in for Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott in the No. 9 Chevrolet during Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race, as Elliott sustained a leg injury while snowboarding in Colorado on Friday and will sit out from competition this weekend.

Parker Kligerman, John Hunter Nemechek, Daniel Hemric, Austin Hill and Riley Herbst completed the top 10.
