Elliott Out For Las Vegas Race Due To Snowboarding Injury

Chase Elliott, driver of the No. 9 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports, will miss this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway due to an injury to his left leg.

He sustained the injury while snowboarding in Colorado on Friday and is set to undergo surgery this evening.

Further details regarding his return are not yet available.

Xfinity Series driver Josh Berry will take Elliott’s spot behind the wheel during the Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube on Sunday afternoon. Berry drives for JR Motorsports, a Hendrick Motorsports affiliate, in the Xfinity Series.

“Chase’s health is our primary concern,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “He’s spoken with several members of our team and is understandably disappointed to miss time in the car. Of course, he has our full support, and we’ll provide any resources he needs. We hope to share another update later this weekend.”

Sunday will mark the first time Elliott has missed a Cup Series race since the start of his Cup Series career in 2016.

He finished 38th at the season opening Daytona 500 on Feb. 19 and filed a second-place finish at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., last weekend. Going into Las Vegas, Elliott was 14th in the championship standings.
