BROOKLYN, Mich. – Joey Logano put his Team Penske Ford on the pole for the Firekeepers Casino 400 Saturday afternoon at Michigan Int’l Speedway.
Logano led a Ford armada Saturday afternoon as the Detroit-based brand earned eight of the top-10 spots for Sunday’s race at the Michigan oval. Logano’s 38.474-second lap 187.139 mph gave him his second pole of the season on Saturday.
“Such a huge advantage to be on the front row here at Michigan and how important it is in Ford’s backyard and Roger (Penske’s) backyard to have a good run here,” Logano said. “We actually went to dinner with Edsel (Ford II) the other night and he told us how important it was to have a victory here.
“Glad we could deliver so far, at least, in qualifying. Hopefully in the race this Shell/Pennzoil Ford has as much speed and handling to be able to stay up there.”
Joining him on the front row for Sunday’s race will be Stewart-Haas Racing Ford driver Aric Almirola, who came up .019 of a second shy of Logano’s fast lap. Kevin Harvick qualified third in his Ford, with Denny Hamlin taking the fourth spot in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. Clint Bowyer completed the top-five in his Stewart-Haas Racing Ford.
Paul Menard, Kurt Busch, Brad Keselowski, Daniel Suarez and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. completed the top-10 in qualifying Saturday afternoon.
