ICMS Names Three Members To Executive Board

INDIANAPOLIS – The International Council of Motorsport Sciences, an association of scientific and medical professionals and others concerned with the improvement of performance and safety in the motorsport industry, has named three new members to its nine-person executive board of directors with Dr. Trifun Dimiatrijevski, Scot Elkins and Bruce MacDonald.

ICMS, formed in 1988, was designed to promote research and discussion related to motorsport safety and performance and to share information with the motorsport participant, race team management and organizing bodies and federations to improve the human element of the sport. The company also concentrates on the latest innovations and advancements in scientific research on human performance and safety in motorsport.

“We are very excited with the election of Trifun, Scot and Bruce to the ICMS Board of Directors,” said Dr. Rob Seal, Chairman of the ICMS. “Despite the challenges imposed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the ICMS is presently experiencing a lot of energy, enthusiasm and growth. One of the many examples of this was our recent Board of Directors election which drew a record nomination of ten strong candidates as well as record membership voter participation. We are anxious to work with our three new board members.

Dimitrijevski, MD, is an emergency medicine physician in the Emergency Department of Detroit Receiving Hospital in the Detroit, Mich., Media Center. In addition, he is an assistant professor of emergency medicine at Wayne State University. Trifun also has vast sports medicine experience as a team physician for the Detroit Pistons and deputy medical director for the Detroit Marathon.

Dimitrijevski has been involved in motorsports since 2007 with the Detroit Grand Prix, serving as medical director since 2017. In 2017, he also became co-chief medical officer for SRO Motorsports America.

“I am extremely excited about this wonderful opportunity and very thankful and humbled to have been elected by the ICMS membership,” said Dimitrijevski. “I will work diligently and tireless to be part of the effort that continues to bring high quality educational endeavors to the ICMS membership and advance the ICMS Mission of improving safety in motorsports.”

Elkins, President and Founder of The Elkins Group (TEG) based in California, organizes a multi-faceted consulting company providing operational, engineering, safety and logistical support for the motorsport and automotive industries.

I am beyond grateful. I hope to utilize my experience of observing safety and medical teams from a racing operations perspective, to provide a new perspective to the mission of the ICMS.”

MacDonald, a current board member, moves into his second term on the ICMS Board of Directors and the Canadian brings a great experience to the role. In the past 46 years, Bruce has been a pioneer in motorsports safety including a co-founder of the ICMS Race Track Safety Program HOT training; first group of NASCAR safety trainers in Canada; original five organizing members and current member of the Canadian Motorsports Response Team; helped re-write SFI Short Track Incident Response Program; sat on the 2012 NASCAR Peer-Review Committee; started “TERC” rescue competitions in Quebec; and FIA race responder for Canadian F1 races.

“I have been honored to serve on the Board of the ICMS for the past three years but am even more excited about the next three years,” said MacDonald. “We have never had as much excitement about the ICMS as we do right now. This is a great time to be a part of the organization! I look forward to working with Tom Weisenbach, ICMS Executive Director, the Board and all the members to continue to educate and train track safety workers. All of us involved with the ICMS need to share the knowledge we have.”
