INSIDER: Glory Days — Stewart Claims Hut Hundred

Tony Stewart rebounded from his terrible crash two weeks ago at DuQuoin to capture the 41st running of the Terre Haute First National Bank Hut Hundred midget race on Sept. 18, 1993 at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track.

It had been less than two weeks since Stewart took a vicious ride of flips in the Silver Crown race at DuQuoin. With still some redness in his eyes, that wreck was a distant memory Saturday, as he scored one of the biggest wins in his young career.

Driving the Crystal Pepsi midget-owned and prepared by·Rollie Helmling, Stewart set fast time with a track record, putting him on the pole for the 100-lap race, part of the Copenhagen/Skoal Racing USAC National Midget Series. 

But the race was no cakewalk for the Rushville, Ind., driver as he first chased Page Jones and then battled Stan Fox all while his hands began to blister severely.
