Weisser Nabs $10,000 Mystery Prize

MEDARYVILLE, Ind. — Not really knowing how much he earned for his winning effort, Allen Weisser captured the fifth annual Mystery 100 for dirt modifieds at Shadyhill Speedway Saturday night.

Kept in suspense as victory lane ceremonies began, Weisser saw promoters Billy Alger and Tammy Hunt write him a check for $10,000 for his win at their quarter-mile oval. It marked the 14th feature win for Weiser this season.

Weisser, a 28-year-old speedster from Peoria, Ill., wheeled his A&A Air Conditioning & Heating/Apex Roofing/Quality Blacktop/Buskirk Tree/Weaver’s Fine Food & Drink/Stoen Racing Engines-sponsored No. 25 to the checkered flag ahead of Beau DeYoung, Nick Allen, Garrett Jameson, fast qualifier Curt Spalding and Brad DeYoung, who won this year’s modified division track championship at Shadyhill.  Brad DeYoung, along with Allen and Jamie Lomax, who finished seventh, were the previous winners of the mystery race in the field.

Twenty cars started the 100-lap chase with Spalding jumping into the lead from his front row, pole starting position.  Spalding was chased by Weisser, Allen and Beau DeYoung.  Working through lapped traffic, Spalding brought out the race’s first yellow flag on lap 45 as Spalding got tangled up with a lapped car.

Weisser inherited the top spot with Allen running second.  A lap or so before the mandatory, halfway, pit stop, Beau DeYoung got by Allen for the number two position.  Several more yellow flags slowed the action with Weiser able to hang onto the lead after the double-file restarts with DeYoung pressing him for the lead.

“I was behind the five car (Spalding) and biding my time,” said Weisser after the race.  “When he (Spalding) got into the (lapped) car, I thought I need to stay here (first place) and keep it going.  I didn’t like to see those restarts at all.  You have to pick your lane on the restart and hope you picked a good lane.

“He (Beau DeYoung) was good especially when we got to those lapped cars.  I seen him get down there a couple of times.  I tried to go to the bottom (groove) but my car just wouldn’t work there.  I kept the car under me and it paid off.”

Ron Wilkes, from Lowell Ind., was the winner of the 20-lap Lucky 7 stock car finale. Taking home $1,000, Wilkes finished ahead of Kyle Barger, Mike VanderMark, Austen Hubbard, John Rhoads and Marty French.  Jace Owens captured the 20-lap Pro Late Models headliner.  The 20-year-old driver from Monticello, Ind., nailed down his feature win of the season ahead of Zack Randall, Chase Osterhoff, Josh Beller and Aaron Heck.
