Smoking Strickler Is Derby Mod Ace

PENSACOLA, Fla. — With smoke billowing from his No. 46 modified, Cody Strickler took the checkered flag in the Mayhem Derby 75 for modifieds Friday night at Five Flags Speedway.

The headliner on the second night of the 55th Snowball Derby, saw Strickler take the lead on lap 48 and lead the remainder of the 75-lap event on the half-mile track despite smoke pouring from his machine.

“We’re still not sure about the smoke,” Stickler said. “We’ve sent the motor back and forth a couple times, and it keeps smoking. It was running great, though.”

Augie Grill, a two-time Snowball Derby winner, finished second on Friday night, with Derrick Griffin taking third.

Jaxon Bishop’s fourth-place finish was good enough to clinch the Modifieds of Mayhem season title.
