Early Look At New Smyrna World Series Entry List

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – New Smyrna Speedway officials have revealed the first look at the entry list for the 55th annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, which is scheduled to take place on Feb. 11-19.

More than 20 tour-type modifieds are on the entry list already, including 2011 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Ron Silk as well as six-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race winner Jimmy Blewett.

The tour-type modified entry list also features four members of the Catalano family from Ontario, N.Y. Brothers Tommy and Tyler Catalano will be joined by their mother, Amy Catalano, and father, David Catalano, during the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing in February.

The tour-type modified division is expected to draw even more entries this year because for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will open its season at New Smyrna Speedway during the World Series for the first time. That event is scheduled for Feb. 12.

Thus far the headlining super late model division has only one entry, but it’s a good one. Two-time and defending ARCA Menards Series West champion Jesse Love is the first and thus far only super late model entrant for the 55th World Series.

The pro late model class has drawn five entries to date, including defending World Series super late model champion Derek Griffith from Hudson, N.H. Tennessee drivers Hunter Wright and Chase Johnson, Connecticut’s Cory Casagrande and Massachusetts’ Kevin Folan are also entered.

Entries have also been received for the 602 mods, Florida modifieds, sportsman, super stock and vintage car divisions.
