MOORESVILLE, N.C. – CMI Motorsports has announced the signing of 15-year-old Connor Sheffield to its late model driver development program.
A Maryland native, Sheffield will race late models in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, piloting the No. 42. The team will have leadership from Tim Silva and guidance from two-time NASCAR Xfinity Series winner Ryan Reed, who will offer at-track assistance as Sheffield tackles his rookie campaign.
No stranger to racing, Sheffield has been racing since he was 10 years old and currently races dirt micro sprints. With this new venture, Sheffield is looking forward to racing at his home track of Hickory Motor Speedway in North Carolina.
“I’m really excited to a part of this team and grateful for the opportunity that Ray has given me. I can’t wait to get the car on the track and see what I can make happen,” said Sheffield.
Ray and Sarah Ciccarelli are equally excited to have Sheffield on board with CMI Motorsports.
“Sarah and I are really happy to put this deal together with a young man that has a lot of talent,” said CMI Motorsports owner Ray Ciccarelli. “We have been lucky enough to have support Connor over the years and now it’s time to take him to the next level.”
