Motorsports Writer Don Hubbard, 86

OWOSSO, Okla. — Longtime SPEED SPORT writer Don Hubbard died May 10 at the age of 86.

Donald Bruce Hubbard was born in Richmond Hill, N.Y. and after a stint in the Navy, settled in Oklahoma where he enjoyed a 50-year career with American Airlines before retiring in 1999.

He spent most of his days following his passions, local short track racing, the New York Yankees and the New York Rangers. During that span he became a successful journalist bringing New York and Oklahoma local racing reports to the national stage.

Hubbard wrote the popular Sooner Circles column in National Speed Sport News and also wrote race reports for NSSN and other motorsports publications.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Everett Hubbard, his wife Eleanore and daughter Cheryl. Don is survived by his three sons, Donnie Hubbard and Bobby Hubbard, both of Owasso and Brian Hubbard and wife Kellie of Apopka, Florida.
