Champions Decided At Buena Vista Raceway

ALTA, Iowa – Buena Vista Raceway brought its Wednesday point season to a close with five IMCA divisions on hand to tackle the wide three-eighths-mile oval.

Season championships at many tracks are straight up mains by track points, but Buena Vista used a draw/redraw format.

Sport compacts started the main event series with Corey Nammany leading a lap before Kaytee DeVries used the bottom of turn two and the backstretch to take the lead.

DeVries went on to win both the track title and the main and continues to lead national points in sport compacts.

Hobby stock main event racing matched sport compacts when Cody Nielsen won both the main and track title. Daniel and Mike Smith combined to lead the first four laps until Nielsen rode the cushion in turn four and raced the high side along the frontstretch to take the lead.

Multiple restarts gave the Smith brothers an opportunity but Nielsen handled the challenge to record the victory.

Sport mods continued the trend when Doug Smith led the final 10 laps for another main event win and a track title. Tim Rupp led five laps before Smith used the low groove on the backstretch to make the pass.

Modifieds followed the pattern when Chris Abelson dominated the main to put an exclamation point on taking the track title.

The stock cars had a unique situation when David Smith and Devin Smith were tied for the point lead and Donavon Smith was six points back. They are all part of the Smith racing family from Lake City, Iowa

Donavon Smith led all the way to win while David Smith’s second to Devin Smith’s fifth put the title in David Smith’s hands.
