Wonderling & Neff Romp To Victory At Freedom Motorsports Park

ARCADE, N.Y. — A sunny and warm evening greeted racers and fans on Friday night as IronListing.Com presented the first program of June at Freedom Motorsports Park.

The 25-lap East Coast Speed RUSH Crate Late Model feature saw Dave DuBois roar past Dan Bennett and Mike Wonderling to take the lead before Paul Grigsby, last Friday night’s winner, had a flat tire and stopped on lap two.  DuBois and Wonderling pulled away to have their own battle for the lead, with Wonderling taking the top spot on lap 14.

Bennett battled with Dustin Waters for third, but a yellow flag for Bill Taylor’s spin on lap 17 slowed the field. Bennett’s race ended when he slid into the frontstretch wall on lap 19, which moved Grigsby back into the top five.

In the final six-lap run to the checkered flag, Wonderling pulled away for the win over DuBois. Grigsby came back to third at the finish, followed by Dalton Jaquay and Dustin Waters.

Pro Mod Feature

In the Close Racing Supply RUSH Pro Mod 20-lap feature, Adam Ashcroft outdueled Adam Peterson for the lead, with Steve Dixon jumping in between the two on lap two. Ashcroft and Dixon pulled away to have their own lead battle while John Woodward Jr. moved past Peterson for third.

As the top three pulled out on  fourth, Bill Holmes passed Al Brewer for fifth and then passed Peterson for fourth on lap 13.

Peterson pitted on a lap 15 caution for Bryson Hill’s stalled car, and Al Brewer also pulled into the pits. On the restart, the lead battle continued, with Dixon slipping under Ashcroft and Holmes passing Woodward Jr.

At the finish, Dixon had his second win of the year over Ashcroft, Holmes, Woodward Jr, and Critter Hemphill.

Street Stock Feature

The 20-lap Street Stock feature began with Tom Kemp and Justin Neff battling for the lead. Kemp took the lead outright on lap two and pulled away from Neff, who was being chased by Joe Chamberlain. Kemp had a problem on lap seven, slowed, and stopped at the pit entrance, handing the lead to Neff.

This left Neff and Chamberlain to battle for the win, with Chamberlain trying time and time again, but he could not best Neff, who took a one car length win over Chamberlain, Ryan Sullivan, Shylar Maybee, and Kemp.

Mini Stock Feature

In the 15-lap Mini Stock feature, Bill Weatherley was the early lead over Andy Shumaker and Holden Heineman. Heat winner Ridge Cobb dropped out on lap two as John Michael and Kevin Doud battled for fourth.

Weatherley and Shumaker ran side-by-side for the lead for a few laps until something happened to Shumaker’s car, handing Weaterley a comfortable lead. Weatherley had Heineman close in over the final two laps, but held him off to take the win with Michael third, Doud fourth, and Weatherley fifth.

The 10-lap Bandit feature saw good battles between Raiddan Wilson, Khloe Griffin and newcomer Dennis Harrison III.  At the finish, Wilson had his second win of the season over Harrison III and Griffin.
