Pitts, Herrick Split The Spotlight At Albany-Saratoga

MALTA, N.Y. — Jeremy Pitts and Dalton Herrick shared the spotlight at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway Friday night, with Pitts coming home first in the DIRTcar modified feature and Herrick prevailing in the CRSA 305 sprint car finale.

Vinnie Visconti led the 35-lap modified race early on off the outside of the front row but gave way to fourth-starting CB Morey on a lap nine restart. Defending track champion Matt DeLorenzo had climbed from 10th to fourth at that point and looked like a challenger, but he went backwards on the restart, allowing Pitts, Josh Hohenforst and Mike Mahaney to take over the chase.

Pitts rode the low groove to get alongside Morey on lap 17. The duo then swapped the lead back and forth until Pitts finally edged away for good two laps later. Hohenforst duplicated the move a few tours later and they finished that way, with Mahaney fourth ahead of Demetrious Drellos, last week’s winner Adam Pearson, DeLorenzo and Jack Lehner.

Tomy Moreau got the jump on polesitter Jeremiah Munson in the sprint car finale, but the third-starting Herrick jumped to second the next time around and was challenging for the lead when Kyle Pierce and Mike Kiser tangled in turn two and did slow rollovers to draw a red flag.

By the next yellow, on lap eight, Herrick had sailed around Moreau and run off to a solid lead, which he immediately rebuilt when green reappeared. Behind them, John Cunningham was dueling with Munson and finally prevailed.

At the flag, it was Herrick, Moreau, Cunningham, Jordan Hutton, Emily VanInwegen, Munson, Mark Taylor, Ray Preston, Fred Proctor and Blake Warner.

Jay Corbin bested Chuckie Dumblewski, Rich Crane and Brandon Emigh in the Pro Stock feature.

Eric Mack claimed the first Sportsman feature over Chad Edwards, Dave Baranowski Jr and Tim Hartman Jr.
