Nye Survives Calamity To Win At Lancaster Motorplex

LANCASTER, N.Y. – Lancaster Motorplex hosted the annual Summer Bash on Saturday night, which saw 2021 Sportsman track champion Shawn Nye return to victory lane for his first victory of the season.

Joe Evans and Andy Jankowiak were on the front row for the 30-lap feature for the Sportsman, with Jankowiak taking the lead on the drop of the green flag.

Chase Williams spun, in turn one to bring out the race’s first caution. George Skora would take over second from Evans and would go after Jankowiak for the lead.

Williams would spin in turn two to bring out the caution on lap 12, allowing Skora to restart on the outside of Jankowiak. Nye would take over third on the restart.

The leaders would make contact, resulting in Jankowiak spinning down the back straightaway. Skora would go to the end of the longest line for the contact. The contact would allow Nye and John Barber to restart on the front row.

The restart would turn to calamity as Jankowiak, Skora, and Williams went three-wide, with Williams pounding the front straightaway wall.

The caution would wave with two laps remaining as Timmy Lewis, Joe Evans, and Bobby Hanel got together in turn three. Jankowiak would head to the pits with two laps remaining, ending his night.

Nye would hold off Jake Lutz to score his first win of the season in his title defense.

Mark Hoch won the street stock main event, with David Brunka won his 10th career 4-cylinder feature.
