RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — Just two weeks after his father John Fortin Sr. struck gold in the Buzz Chew Chevrolet NASCAR Modifieds at Riverhead Raceway, second-generation racer J.B. Fortin made it back-to-back wins for the Fortin clan on Saturday night.
J.B. Fortin mastered a restart at the halfway mark of the 50-lap race to claim his second career victory at the historic quarter-mile asphalt track.
Roger Turbush and Fortin shared the front row with Turbush grabbing the lead and setting the pace until a lap-25 yellow flag for debris.
With the leader having choice of which lane to fire off from on restarts Turbush decided he like his chances with the outside groove moving Fortin to the inside. When the race resumed, Fortin made the inside lane work and grabbed the lead.
Despite several yellow flags, Fortin held the lead to the checkered flag.
Turbush finished second, with Dave Brigati, Tom Rogers Jr. and John Baker rounding out the top five.
Other winners were Tony Ferrante Jr. (Vintage All Stars), Lou Maestri (Super Pro Trucks), Jeff Farruggia Jr. (Legend Cars) Chevy Rommeney (Bandoleros), Gerard Lawrence (Street Stocks), Paul Wojcik (Mini Stocks) and Ryan Warren (enduro).
