LIMA, Ohio – After losing the last two events to rain, Limaland Motorsports Park was back in action Friday evening with Todd Sherman grabbing the victory in the Northwest Physical Therapy UMP Modifieds.
In other action, Craig Dippman won the Budweiser Thunderstock feature while Shawn Dancer was triumphant in the K&L Ready Mix NRA Sprint Invaders main event.
Thirty-two teams signed in to compete in the UMP Modified main event, with Aaron Orr and Jeff Koz leading the field to the green flag as chaos erupted in turn one. Orr tangled with Shane O’Connor, with five other cars piling into turn one.
After the accident was cleared up, a complete restart ensued with Koz grabbing the early lead. Sherman started working on Koz right away but Koz was able to hold off Sherman through two cautions and restarts on laps four and seven, but Koz would be docked two spots for hitting the frontstretch cone, handing the lead to Sherman.
Daniel Sanchez found himself in second and battled with Koz until Koz got by for good on lap nine. O’Connor battled his way back up to fifth before getting sideways in turn two to bring out the caution, his second, ending his night. Sherman would pull away to victory over Koz, Sanchez, Jerry Bowersock and Dillon Nussbaum completing the top-five.
Mark Wooten and Justin Long would lead the Bud Thunderstock field to green but just like the Modified feature, calamity ensued with four cars piling up in turn two, causing a complete restart. Craig Dippman would waste no time in grabbing the lead and trying to set sail on the field, but a caution for debris would wave on lap three. Dippman would once again pull away with the lead, but Jordan Conover was charging through the field, making his way up to second on lap eight.
Caution would wave once again on lap 10 as UNOH Racer Jamie Sullivan would spin her No. 00 right in front of Dippman, narrowly missing the leader. On the restart Conover would peek to the inside of Dippman, but Dippman would charge to his second-straight win, with Conover second, Randy Giroux third, Tony Anderson fourth and Casey Barr fifth.
Completing the night’s racing action were the K&L Ready Mix NRA Sprint Invaders. Harli White and Dancer would lead the field to green with Dancer grabbing the lead over White and Connor Morrell. Caution would wave on lap 10 for Jake Hesson spinning in turn four. White would bring out the next caution on lap 15, doing a 360 in turn four, nearly collecting Dan McCarron. On the restart, Randy Hannagan would crack the top-five after starting last.
Hannagan would power to third by lap 17 when the caution waved again, this time for Zane DeVault coming to a stop in turn four. Hannagan looked poised to make a challenge to the top two until the caution flag waved one final time on lap 21 for Todd Heuerman spinning in turn two. Dancer would survive the final restart and grab the win ahead of Jared Horstman, McCarron, Hannagan and Devon Dobie
