Ohio Racing Legend Art Ball, 85

TIFFIN, Ohio — Legendary Ohio stock car driver Art Ball died Oct. 20. Born Arthur H. Ball, he was 85 years old.

Art was a legend on the dirt track circuit for more than 50 years, driving No. 01 machines  at area tracks including Attica Raceway Park, Fremont Speedway and McCutchenville Speedway.

Ball raced hobby stocks, late models, dirt trucks and sprint cars. He won 301 features and 30 track championships during his career that lasted until he was 77 years old.

Ball won his last feature when he was 76. He was inducted into the Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame in 2009 and the National Late Model Hall of Fame in 2019.

Ball was recognized prior to Tuesday (Oct. 24) night’s race at Fremont Speedway and he will be laid to rest on Oct. 26.
