Nichols Banks $1,000 Crawford County Prize

DENISON, Iowa – Crawford County Speedway presented its weekly Friday program of six IMCA divisions, with a $1,000 to win stock car special on the agenda.

A 64-car turnout for the three-eighths-mile, high-banked oval included 14 stock cars eyeing the payout for finishing first.

Brock Badger used a top-groove drive ending lap two to lead with pressure from Brian Blessington and Mike Nichols for many laps, all chasing the $1,000.

Blessington lost an engine with three laps remaining, setting up the deciding restart. Nichols raced low into turn one on the restart to take the lead and the win. Badger was second and Mike Albertsen followed.

The RaceSaver sprints had Stuart Snyder take only three laps to lead from eighth on the grid, using a top-groove drive in turn four to lead and dominate for the win. Mike Houseman was second over Jake Greenwood.

Modified point leader, local driver Shane DeMey, traveled 500 miles from a race at 141 Speedway in Wisconsin to protect his place. A DNF for the long tow driver was his result after losing his brakes.

A long stretch of Jim Thies leading the modified main ended with a yellow. The remaining two laps produced a three-car battle and Thies just edged Ricky Stephen at the checkers. Jeff Stephens was third.

Hobby stocks ran a dozen laps in their main and Jordon Androy had no problem controlling the race, leading Seth and Ricky Christensen to the finish.

Sport mods had Jim Blazina leading five laps before Buddy Ray Jones used the upper line in turns three and four to take over. Jones pulled away for a significant margin of victory, trailed by Joe Reetz and Sean Kuehl at the finish.

Sport Compact racing was all Caine Mahlberg after leading all 10 laps.
