Grundy Late Model Feature Goes To Koerner

MORRIS, Ill. — Scott Koerner, a veteran of stock car racing and open-wheel midget action, won the 30-lap late model stock car feature race at the Grundy County Speedway Friday night.

Koerner, from Joliet, Ill., a six-time champion of the Illini Racing Association midget group, wheeled his Camry to the victory at the third-mile paved track, becoming the third different late model driver to win at the fairgrounds oval this season.

Koerner took the checkered flag with a 1.020-second lead over Keith Tolf, who was followed by fast qualifier James Lynch, James Gregait and seven-time late model track titlist Eddie Hoffman.

Matt Chester nailed down his second street stock main victory of the season, winning the 25-lap chase over a pressuring Randy Weese, who earlier set a new division track record (16.519 seconds) during time trials.

Last year’s champion Scotty Gardner finished third with Cameron Preisler and Jonathan Stevens rounding out the top five.

Matt Lee claimed top honors in the 20-lap four-cylinder class headliner.  Lee bested Danielle Dobczyk, Scott Ingram, Zach Legner and fast timer Kristi Odom.

Landon Hocking held off Jacob Senerchia to win the 20-lap feature race for the Midwest Super Cups. Dustin Olmstead, Carter Appleton and JoJo Fadke chased the leaders to the finish line.
