Grimm Makes It Stick At East Moline

EAST MOLINE, Ill. — Trey Grimm’s car stayed stuck, but in a good way.

The Legacy Corporation IMCA SportMod ace finally put it all together in winning the 15-lap feature Sunday evening at East Moline Speedway.

Grimm prefers the low groove of the quarter-mile dirt oval and his car was pasted there to hold off point leader Jarett Franzen, Logan Veloz, Ben Hamburg and Chuck Fox.

“We needed the track to be smooth and slick and we got it,” Grimm said. “I love the bottom. The car just works so much better down there. As soon as I got down there the car just set perfect.”

Hamburg led early before Grimm worked his magic and was out front the rest of the way.

Jacob Waterman took off from the front row and paced all 25 laps to win the Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Late Model finale.

Andy Nezworski climbed from eighth to the runner up spot with Chuck Hanna, Gary Webb and B.J. Jackson next.

Jeff Larson did his usual methodical run to the front to take his eighth J&J Camper Sales IMCA Modified 20-lap finale.Travis Denning, Milo Veloz, Donovan Lodge and Chance Huston followed.

The County Waste Systems Street Stock feature started with a bang. Eleven of the 17 starters were involved in an opening-lap incident on turn four. Several returned, but when it all sorted out after 15 laps, Robert Cottom held off a charging Jesse Owen and Joe Bonney for his first 2021 EMS win.

Drew Burk passed Logan Gustaf early and won the 12-lap Rudy’s Tacos IMCA Hobby Stock ender. Adam Parker, Donnie Cole III and Jesse Wetzel followed.

R.J. Gonzales zipped by early leader Mike Morrow and held off a charging Mike Zemo, Jr. for his second Weekend Performance IMCA Mod Lite 15-lap win. Zemo, Jon Padilla, Morrow and Rob Guss rounded out the top five.

Jimmy Dutlinger took the green from P8 and systematically made it to the front of the 12-lap Riverbend Pizza Place Sport Compact main.

The KidzModz made a guest appearance and nine-year-old Blake Crebo won his fifth feature of the season.
