Begyn Conquers East Moline

EAST MOLINE, Ill. — Dustin Begyn saw it was a different track. He formulated the same strategy as earlier in the evening, got to the front and completed the July 4 sweep of the Riverbend Pizza Place Sport Compacts Sunday at East Moline Speedway.

The Taylor Ridge ace rolled off ninth in the June 27 make up 12-lap feature and used the top groove on a tacky track en route to the victory. The only difference in the regular finale was the choice of groove.

“I had to push the car pretty hard on the bottom,” Begyn said. “We still bounced around a bit, but we made it work.”

Begyn beat Troy Anderson, Norm Marcov, Cyle Hawkins and Drew Wise in the first run. Jimmy Dutlinger, Cody Brewster, Jason Rhoads and Hawkins followed in the night cap.

“It was a pretty clean run with everyone tonight. That was a fun night of racing.”

Andy Nezworski turned the tables on a week ago and beat Gary Webb in the Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Late Model 25-lap feature.

The track point leader swept around early leader Shawn Mulvany about halfway through and cruised to his third win of 2021. After Webb and Mulvany were Mike Haines and Nebraska visitor Robbie Jorgensen.

Jeff Larson evaded traffic and took his fifth J&J Camper Sales IMCA Modified 20-lapper. His good friend Travis Denning finished a few car lengths back, ending his two-race win streak. Jim Sandusky, Chance Huston and Brandon Durbin followed.

Larson took the Maquoketa Speedway/EMS $100 bonus for the fourth time as he swept both tracks.

Seventeen-year-old Logan Veloz bounced by Dustin Schram late in the Legacy Corporation IMCA SportMod 15-lap main for his first 2021 win. Steven Spiker, David Engelkens and Rob Nylin rounded out the top five. Point leader Jarett Franzen was involved in a late race incident and finished seventh.

Jesse Simmons visited and ran off with the 15-lap County Waste Systems Street Stocks. A last lap move around Jim Rustaert propelled him to the win.

Rob Henry, Peter O’Dell and point leader Jesse Owen came next.

Randy Lamar topped the 12-lap Rudy’s Tacos IMCA Hobby Stock finale over Drew Burk, Adam Parker and Steven Rangel.

Jon Padilla held off Mike Zemo, Jr. for the 15-lap Weekend Performance IMCA Mod Lite win. Blake Gonzales, Anthony Guss and Michael Dominguez followed.

A total of 83 entries from four states hit the quarter-mile oval and racing concluded before 9 p.m.
