Baker wins Grundy Late Model Main

MORRIS, Ill. — Former track champion Ricky Baker came home the winner of the 30-lap late model stock car feature race at the Grundy County Speedway Friday during Fan Appreciation Night.

Baker and teammate Larry Schuler checked out from the rest of the 15-car field with Baker, a two-time late model titlist at Grundy, scoring his first feature win of the year at the third-mile paved raceway.

Finishing behind the Baker-Schuler duo were Anthony Danta, Blake Brown and seven-time track champion and current points leader Eddie Hoffman.

Making it two wins in the last two weeks, Kevin Murphy claimed top honors in the 25-lap sportsman division main event.  Murphy, who won the sportsman titles in 2019 and 2020, bested fast timer Jeremiah Senko, Matt Clemens, points leader Kenny Benson and Timmy Stewart.

Four lead changes in the final two laps eventually saw Matt Chester beat Cameron Preisler in the 25-lap Frank Flory Memorial for street stock racers.  On his way to track championship honors, Chester posted his ninth feature win of the season.  Scotty Gardner, Randy Weese and Jonathan Stevens rounded out the top five.

Ethan Wolf celebrated his 18th birthday, winning the 20-lap pure stock (four-cylinder) division feature.  Wolf scored the win in front of Zach Chanda and Danielle Dobczyk.  Chad Bayuk won the 15-lap hobby stock feature, grabbing his second win of the year ahead of David Einhaus and Marqus Hoover.
