Eckert Opens Selinsgrove With $4,000 Score

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Selinsgrove Speedway opened its season on Saturday night with Rick Eckert taking the $4,000 super late model victory.

The 305 sprint car division was also in action, with Christian Rumsey claiming the checkered flag.

Eckert started on the pole of the 30-lap super late model feature and outdistanced Gregg Satterlee for his eighth career win at the Snyder County oval. He withstood three restarts with Satterlee lined up directly behind, but on every occasion he was able to pull away from the field.

During the middle portion of the event Eckert stretched his lead to nearly three seconds, but at the end his margin of victory was 1.635 seconds.

Bryan Bernheisel originally crossed the line in third, but was credited with 14th after post-race inspection.

Jim Yoder was credited with finishing third, followed by Jeff Rine and Alex Ferree.

In the 305 sprint car main event, Nick Sweigart led the first 13 laps of the 20-lap feature before giving way to Doug Dodson. Sweigart then slowed to a stop on the track with four laps to go, setting up a volley of restarts before Dodson surrendered the lead thanks to a flat tire.

Rumsey, who had started 14th, then took command and collected the victory.

Landon Price was second, followed by Dave Graber, Kassidy Kreitz and Devin Adams.

A field of 51 305 sprint cars attempted to qualify for the feature.
