Knight Conquers Freedom Oval

DEVELAN, N.Y. — It was a wild night of action for the BDK Construction Fall Classic at Freedom Motorsports Park, highlighted by photo finishes in both the Super Late Model and Crate Late Model divisions on the first of two nights of racing.

The 30-lap Super Late Model feature saw Mike Knight and Ryan Montgomery battle for the early lead as they pulled away from Wyatt Scott.  Jason Genko and Garrett Mott batlled for fourth and fifth at the halfway point, with Genko getting the position on lap 16.

The event went caution free till lap 28 when Mott broke and hit the backstretch wall, which bunched the field for a final restart.  Montgomery had the lead on the white flag lap, but Knight rolled past coming off turn four on the final lap to snag the win.  Scott had an issue coming off turn four to the checkers, allowing Greg Oakes to slip past for third and Jason Genko got by Wyatt for fourth as they came across the line.

In the 30-lap Duke Duclon Memorial for the Crate Late Models, Bryce Davis outdragged Brady Wonderling for the early lead, but a multi car crash involving Kurt Stebins and several others brought out a red after two laps.

While many were able to continue, Brian Kotarski and Paul Grigsby wound up on the hook after the meleee.  Davis pulled away on the restart, with Jeremy Wonderling and Mike Wonderling making moves to close in on the leaders.

Chris Fleming’s car came to a stop on lap 11 which set up another restart.  Homan spun in turn two, which created another multi car spin situation and collected Matt Latta and Steve Dixon.  Genko snuck into second on the restart as Jeremy and Brady Wonderling battled.  As Davis hit traffic, Genko and Jeremy Wonderling closed in and the final five laps saw them all dicing back and forth, trading the lead.

The trio came three wide off the final corner and in a flat out drag race to the line, Wonderling took the win by less than half a car length over Genko and Davis in an absolutely thrilling finish.  Brady Wonderling and Holmes rounded out the top five.
