STATESVILLE, N.C. – Veteran Timothy Peters will return to the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series at Kansas Speedway on Oct. 17 to drive the No. 52 Toyota Tundra for Halmar-Friesen Racing.
Peters, an 11-time Truck Series winner over a 15-year career spanning 247 starts, will fill in for Stewart Friesen, who will honor a prior commitment to race in the Short Track Super Series-sanctioned Speed Showcase 200 at Port Royal Speedway.
The Port Royal event pays $50,000 to win and was already on Friesen’s 2020 calendar prior to the realignment of the NASCAR schedule due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Oct. 17 Kansas Truck race was a late addition to the schedule, necessitating the change for HFR. Friesen will return to the seat of the No. 52 at Texas Motor Speedway on Oct. 25 for the SpeedyCash.com 400.
“The Kansas schedule change recently announced by NASCAR moved a truck race to the same date as our previous commitment with the Short Track Super Series for the Speed Showcase 200 at Port Royal Speedway. Since we are not in the playoffs this year, we decided to bring in Timothy Peters to drive the truck for us at Kansas,” Friesen explained. “We are excited to see what Timothy can do with the HFR No. 52 Toyota Tundra.
“With his successful history in the Truck Series, we are confident in his ability to drive our truck to a strong finish.”
Peters has never won at Kansas in the Truck Series, but he earned a best finish of second at the 1.5-mile track in 2012 while driving for the now-defunct Red Horse Racing team.
In 10 Kansas Truck Series starts, Peters boasts two top-five and four top-10 finishes.
