DragonSpeed & Hanley Enter Indy 500

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – DragonSpeed Racing has become the 33rd team to enter the 104th Indianapolis 500, with British driver Ben Hanley tabbed to compete for the team at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

That means barring any unforeseen circumstances involving crashes in practice and qualifications, there should be a full field of 33 cars that take the green flag for the Indianapolis 500, scheduled for Aug. 23.

Hanley, a rookie in last year’s Indianapolis 500 who started 27th finished 32nd, will drive the No. 81 DragonSpeed Chevrolet at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The team is owned by former driver Elton Julian. Originally, the team was going to skip this year’s Indianapolis 500, but he was able to accumulate enough sponsorship and other funding to put a deal together in time for next Wednesday’s opening day of practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Hanley finished first in the LMP2 class driving for DragonSpeed in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at Road America last weekend. He co-drove with Henrik Hedman.

The Indianapolis 500 entry is sponsored by Flex-Box and 10Star Solutions.
