Dixon Fastest In Morning Warmup For GMR Grand Prix

INDIANAPOLIS – Five-time NTT IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon is hoping to break a string of three-straight second-place finishes in the GMR Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Dixon was the fastest driver in Saturday morning’s warmup session with a fast time of 1:11.0771 around the 2.439-mile, 14-turn IMS road course in the No. 9 PNC Bank Chevrolet.

Team Penske driver Josef Newgarden’s Chevrolet was second at 1:11.2178. That was followed by a trio of Honda drivers including Ryan Hunter-Reay at 1:11.2380, Graham Rahal at 1:11.4532 and Felix Rosenqvist at 1:11.4380.

Team Penske’s Will Power claimed his fourth career GMR Grand Prix pole on Friday. He was 11th Saturday morning at 1:11.9001 in his No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet.

Power is attempting to win the GMR Grand Prix for the fourth time in the seventh running of this contest. All three of his previous GMR Grand Prix wins have come from the pole.

The only issues in the 30-minute session included Alexander Rossi’s crew fixing a fuel pickup issue that kept him off the course for the first 10 minutes of the session. Marco Andretti’s Honda also stalled on course and had to be towed in.

Charlie Kimball of A.J. Foyt Racing locked his tires up in turn 10 but was able to continue.
The GMR Grand Prix will be broadcast live on NBC at Noon EST.
