Darrell Wallace Jr. Lands Truck Ride For Martinsville

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series regular Darrell Wallace Jr. will pull double duty this weekend at Martinsville Speedway.

Wallace has landed a ride with AM Racing for the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series portion of the race weekend and will pilot the No. 22 Chevrolet Silverado in Saturday’s Alpha Energy Solutions 250.

The team confirmed the news via a prepared statement on social media Wednesday afternoon.

“In an effort to advance the performance component of our program, we will be putting a different Chevrolet driver in the seat of the No. 22 Chevrolet Silverado for Martinsville this weekend, and we are pleased to announce Darrell Wallace Jr. as the driver,” the statement read. “He has been selected with very specific objectives regarding program feedback and development. His record at the track speaks for itself.”

Wallace spent two full seasons in the Truck Series with Kyle Busch Motorsports, racing for the championship in both 2013 and 2014. During that time, he picked up two victories in four starts at the .526-mile Martinsville paper clip.

Overall, Wallace has six wins, 15 top-five and 27 top-10 finishes in 46 Truck Series starts.

Austin Wayne Self had driven the No. 22 AM Racing entry for the first three races of the season, picking up a top-10 finish at Daytona Int’l Speedway, when he came home ninth.

Since then, Self has struggled to 27th- and 15th-place efforts at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway and Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway. The Texas native ranks 12th in points.
