Zampa Stops Gomes At Irwindale

IRWINDALE, Calif. — In what could only be described as a wild super late model race, Dylan Zampa held off two-time Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series champion Jacob Gomes to earn his first Southwest Tour victory Saturday night at Irwindale Speedway.

By winning the RJ Allen 100, Zampa ended Gomes’ three-race winning streak in the series. The 2022 Kulwicki Driver Development Program champion survived three red flags and a severe challenge from Gomes to get the victory.

Zampa grabbed the lead from Austin Herzog after a red on lap 46 and was able to fend off all challengers to win in front of Gomes, Herzog, Nick Cooper and John Moore.

After Jacob Gomes was unable to extend his winning streak to four, in the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series, Linny White one-upped Gomes by grabbing his fourth win in-a-row in the Spears Manufacturing Pro Late Model Series. White ran down Sean Woodside and took the lead just before a caution on lap 32.

White was able to lead the remainder of the event, with Woodside second and Trevor Huddleston third.

Travis Thirkettle won the modified feature.

The event was broadcast by SPEED SPORT affiliate LowBudget.tv.

The finish:

Dylan Zampa, Jacob Gomes, Austin Herzog, Nick Cooper, John Moore, Scott Sanchez, Jason Gilbert, Dan Holtz, Cale Kanke, Andy Allen, Buddy Shepherd, Jake Bollman, John Dillon, James Teets, Kole Raz, Dylan Lupton.
