Weltmeyer Captures Grundy Late Model Main

MORRIS, Ill. — D.J. Weltmeyer raced to victory in the 30-lap late model stock car feature race at the Grundy County Speedway Friday night.

The third-generation racer from Kouts, Ind., wheeled his Team Stange-sponsored No. 16 entry to his first feature win of the year.

Weltmeyer took the checkered flag with a slim 0.093-second advantage over former two-time track champion, Ricky Baker.  Fastest qualifier Anthony Danta finished third, followed by seven-time Grundy titlist Eddie Hoffman, Wes Griffith Jr. and James Gregait.  A field of 15 started the main event at the third-mile, paved oval.

Ron Vandermeir Jr. was the winner of the 25-lap sportsman main event.  Vandermeir bested Matt Clemens, Kevin Murphy, Clay Curts and David Einhaus.  Veteran driver and defending division champion, Scott Gardner claimed top honors in the 30-lap street stock feature race, finishing ahead of his son, Scotty.  Randy Weese, Chad Bayuk and James Dean rounded out the top-five.

Last year’s division titlist, Cameron Preisler was the winner of the 20-lap four-cylinder feature, scoring the win ahead of female competitors Katie Hocking and Danielle Dobczyk.  Jacob Senerchia won the Midwest Super Cup Series main event.
