Thorn Keeps Rolling With $25,000 Showdown Score

IRWINDALE, Calif. – Derek Thorn added another feather to his cap with his second victory in the All-Star Showdown at Irwindale Speedway Saturday night.

Thorn spent much of the race battling with defending race winner and veteran Preston Peltier, who appeared to have Thorn’s number.

However, a mistake by Peltier would hand control of the race to Thorn. Shortly after taking the lead back from Thorn, Peltier bottomed out while entering turn three with 75 laps left. He ended up in the marbles at the top of the track, where he lost control and slammed the turn four wall.

Peltier’s race was over and Thorn was now in command, a position he would not give up for the rest of the race. The defending SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour champion took home $25,000 for his work Saturday night.

Owen Riddle was second, followed by Logan Bearden, Cale Kanke and Jeremy Doss.

Dylan Cappelo was victorious in the companion pro late model feature while Travis Thirkettle triumphed in the modified feature.
