CORDELE, Ga. – The longstanding SpeedFest super late model feature at Watermelon Capital Speedway will race for 150 laps and $12,000 to win next year, officials from the ARCA/CRA Super Series and Southern Super Series announced Monday.
The winner’s purse was raised to a $7,000 payoff by Track Enterprises, the event promoter, then an anonymous sponsor added a $5,000 bonus to make the winner’s share $12,000. The event will take place on Friday, Jan. 28 and Saturday, Jan. 29.
The format for the SpeedFest, which will be a co-sanctioned special event for the ARCA/CRA Super Series and the Southern Super Series, will allot teams six tires total for the event with controlled cautions.
“This event has traditionally been a bigger super late model event, so we felt like we needed to increase the total payoff and the number of laps,” Bob Sargent of Track Enterprises said. “We increased the laps to 150 and gave the teams two more tires, we increased the entire super late model payoff for the event, then we had a sponsor come on board that wanted to put up a $5,000 bonus for the event winner, taking this event to the next level.”
A special 100-lap feature sanctioned by the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour will accompany the event, along with the Midwest Modifieds and Modifieds of Mayhem Tour in 50-lap main events. Additionally, the Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks will have a special 75-lap main event and legend cars will also be featured in a 25-lap event.
There will be an optional open test for all SpeedFest divisions on Thursday, Jan. 27, pits will open at 9 a.m. with rotating practice sessions going from noon to 5 p.m.
Friday, Jan. 28 will feature practice and pole day for all five classes, with on track activity beginning at 11:30 a.m. All five features will run Saturday, Jan. 29.
