CORDELE, Ga. – Defending SpeedFest race winner Corey Heim will start on the pole position for Saturday’s super late model event at Watermelon Capital Speedway.
Heim inherited the pole position through the luck of the draw after posting the fourth fastest time during qualifying on a brisk, windy Friday.
“I’m planning to cruise a little at the start and try to control the pace,” he said. “I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”
Matt House set fast time with a lap of 15.648 seconds in a tight qualifying session among the top five drivers, all within a tenth of a second. Following the draw of the top eight qualifiers, House will start fifth in the 150-lap event.
“I have a good race car,” he said. “Better than I expected. This is a brand new car that we had hoped to have taken to the Snowball Derby.”
Daniel Dye will start second after posting the fifth quick time with Georgia native Bubba Pollard starting third after posting the second quick time.
“The car got tight,” Pollard said. “All in all it’s good. Hope to make the right adjustments and right call.”
Chandler Smith with start fourth after qualifying seventh with Stephen Nasse, Carson Hocevar and Jake Garcia rounding out the top eight.
Dylan Fetcho will bring the Pro Late Models to the green flag for the 100-lap event after turning a lap at 15.908 seconds.
Cole Williams, Derek Griffith, Michael Hinde and Graham Campbell rounded out the top five.
Because of the expected colder than normal temperatures and a steady breeze, race officials have changed the format for the two races.
Caution laps will count until there are ten laps remaining in both the Pro Late Model and Super Late Model features.
