SRX Postpones Fourth Season, Cites ‘Market Factors’

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — The fourth season of the Superstar Racing Experience has been postponed, according to an official statement released by the series on Thursday evening.

“It is with deep disappointment that we announce the postponement of SRX’s fourth season. We entered the next phase of our racing series with great anticipation and excitement for what was ahead. Our expectations, however, have been tempered by market factors that have proven too much to overcome,” the statement read.

Since November, SRX has been regularly releasing details about its 2024 season, announcing dates at Michigan’s Berlin Raceway, Connecticut’s Stafford Speedway and Vermont’s Thunder Road Speedbowl.

However, the schedule for the summer series — owned by Tony Stewart — is now on hold for the indefinite future.

“SRX officials contacted us this afternoon and have informed us that the 2024 SRX season has been canceled,” explained Stafford Speedway COO Paul Arute in a press release. “We had a great run with the series and want to thank the entire SRX staff for entrusting us in launching and hosting the series.”

The past three SRX events at Stafford were sellouts.

In Thursday’s statement on X, SRX officials noted they are exploring “strategic options for the series’ long-term potential,” though they are not sure where the future of the “Thursday Night Thunder” brand lies.

SRX races appeared on ESPN’s Thursday Night Thunder during the 2023 season after the series ran its first two seasons on Saturday nights on CBS.

“Time has run out to put forth the kind of events our fans, partners, drivers and tracks deserve. We’re thankful for each for their commitment, their contributions and their support as we brought a new idea to reality,” the statement said.

In related news, former SRX CEO and NASCAR Hall of Famer Ray Evernham announced the formation of IROC Holdings, LLC — a joint venture company created by Evernham and former NASCAR Cup Series team owner Rob Kauffman — on Jan. 8.

Their shared intent is to resurrect the IROC brand and host an event for vintage IROC cars in 2024.

Stewart was the inaugural SRX champion in 2021, with Marco Andretti winning the title in 2022 and Ryan Newman taking top honors this past season.
