Coby Heads To Monadnock Looking For Third Straight Win

MILFORD, Conn. – Doug Coby and Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) will continue their partnership this weekend at Monadnock Speedway, when Coby wheels the No. 7NY in the Duel at the Dog 200.

Coby was tabbed to drive the car at Riverhead Raceway and Lee USA Speedway last month, and in the first two starts together as a combination, the team went to victory lane. Since then, Mike Christopher Jr. has also driven the car to the victory at Jennerstown Speedway, meaning Tommy Baldwin Racing has won the last three Whelen Modified Tour events.

On top of winning, TBR also leads the championship owner point standings after five events. Coby, a six-time Whelen Modified Tour champion, was only planning on running select events with his personal race team this year, but is excited to return to the seat for Baldwin this weekend.

The 200-lap event at Monadnock will come with no pit stops, meaning tire conservation and patience will be crucial to success. At Riverhead, Coby was the dominant force in that 200-lap event. At Lee, he rocketed to the lead in dominating fashion again to take a second straight win.

In his career at Monadnock, the Milford, Conn., native has one victory in seven previous starts and has been top-five in all but two efforts at the Winchester, New Hampshire oval.

“I’m certainly happy to be back in the car,” Coby said. “Tommy Baldwin has two opportunities to win Saturday, with my car and Jimmy Blewett driving the No. 1 for him. It’s a chance to extend the streak. Monadnock is an awesome little technical track, where you have to be smart, smooth and consistent and repeat that and do it over and over again for the whole race. It seems like as the race goes on, you can move around and use different parts of the track to get the car to turn. It’s a fun place.”
