Larson Files Entry For 60th Knoxville Nationals

KNOXVILLE, Iowa — Officials from Knoxville Raceway have confirmed that NASCAR Cup Series competitor Kyle Larson has filed an entry to compete in the 60th Knoxville Nationals on Aug. 11-14.

Larson, who drives the No. 5 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports in the NASCAR Cup Series, finished a career-best second to Donny Schatz during the 2017 edition of the marquee 410 sprint car event at the half-mile dirt oval.

With COVID-19 forcing Knoxville and World of Outlaws officials to cancel the 2020 edition of the Nationals, Knoxville Raceway hosted a special event called The One and Only last season in its place.

Driving Paul Silva’s No. 57 sprint car, Larson won the opening night feature and finished second on night two before winning the $50,000 Capitani Classic that closed out the three-day weekend. It was one of more than 40 victories for Larson last season on dirt following his suspension by NASCAR for the use of a racial slur.

Larson has competed in the Knoxville Nationals A-Main five times during his career, scoring finishes of 16th (2012), sixth (2013), fifth (2016), second (2017) and third (2018). The 2021 edition of the Knoxville Nationals will pay $150,000 to the winner, with the track also offering $1,000 per lap in lap leader money.

The NASCAR Cup Series will be in action that weekend on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course. It is one of eight events this season that will feature practice and qualifying.

Practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is scheduled for 11:05 a.m. EST Saturday morning, which should leave Larson enough time to fly back to Knoxville Raceway that evening to compete in the 60th Knoxville Nationals.
