KNOXVILLE, Iowa — Kyle Larson may have laid claim to the opening-night victory during Knoxville Raceway’s The One and Only weekend, but he didn’t end the night as the early point leader.
That honor went to Aaron Reutzel, who put together a 430-point performance to lead the 67-car World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series field.
Reutzel qualified fifth, finished third in his heat and was third in the feature under a system that pays out 100 points for fast time, 100 points for a heat win and 250 points to win the preliminary night features.
World of Outlaws championship leader Logan Schuchart and Friday feature winner Kyle Larson are tied for second with421 event points. Brian Brown is fourth at 417 and Spencer Bayston fifth at 415.
Reigning Knoxville Nationals winner David Gravel (411), Carson Macedo (401), Joey Saldana (398), Gio Scelzi (395) and Jacob Allen (387) fill out the top 10.
Notables buried deeper in the field include Donny Schatz (17th), Brad Sweet (22nd), Shane Stewart (29th), Sheldon Haudenschild (30th), Parker Price-Miller (39th) and Anthony Macri (46th).
The full field will return to action Friday night to earn points in an identical program, with the top four in combined points entering Saturday’s Brownell’s Capitani Classic locked in to the DIRTvision Fast Pass Dash that will set the top eight starting spots for the finale.
This year’s Capitani Classic will pay a whopping $50,000 to the winner and $3,000 to start.
